IKEA Group appoints Jesper Brodin as the new CEO

Jesper Brodin has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at the furniture and retail empire IKEA Group. He will be taking over from Peter Agnefjall who has decided to step down. Jesper will take up the new role on 1st September. He is currently the Managing Director of IKEA’s Sweden unit and is responsible for the development of the company’s product range and supply chain. He will move to Leiden in the Netherlands, where IKEA has its headquarters.

IKEA has 348 stories, 45 shopping centres and 140,000 employees in 28 countries. Jesper will take over the entire spectrum of IKEA. Under Agnefjall, IKEA has expanded its presence in the Asian markets including China and also began to streamline strategies for India along with online offerings. This strategy is unlikely to change under Jesper.

Brodin has been with IKEA since 1995 and has worked in purchasing, product-range development, logistics and group management and spent time in locations from Pakistan and China to Denmark and Sweden.

Agnefjall, who took on the job in 2013, said in the statement he would take some time off with his family before embarking on his next venture.
