Philippines Pension Fund SSS CEO resigns

MANILA - Rolando Ledesma Macasaet, President and CEO of the Philippines Pension Fund Social Security System (SSS), stepped down from his position on October 6, 2024.

Rolando, who previously served civil servant pension fund GSIS as president and general manager, had been leading the state-run pension fund since January 5, 2023. He also served as Vice Chairperson of the Social Security Commission, the policy-making body of SSS. In its tribute to him, the SSS highlighted his commitment to ensuring every Filipino receives a pension, but did not disclose the reason for his resignation or name his successor.

He played a pivotal role in expanding social security coverage, especially in remote areas, and launched initiatives to bring services closer to communities. Under his leadership, over half a million job orders, contract of service workers, and barangay workers gained access to social security benefits.

“Macasaet stood out for his willingness to listen,” the SSS added. “Through the Stakeholders' Forum, he gathered feedback from members and employers to shape SSS policies. He believed that listening to those who benefit from these services made them more engaged and supportive.”

Meanwhile, the SSS-GSIS Pensyonado party-list announced that Macasaet has accepted their nomination to run for a seat in the House of Representatives in the May 2025 elections. “As a former chief of both SSS and GSIS, and as a pensioner himself, Macasaet understands the limitations of these institutions—limitations that he hopes to address through legislative representation,” said spokesperson Fercival Yutan in the media.
