General Motors to lay off 1700 employees

After laying off over 1,000 employees from its Software and Services division on August 18, auto giant General Motors announced its plan to lay off 1,700 workers.

According to Reuters, General Motors, one of the largest and oldest automobile manufacturers in the world, will lay off 1,695 workers at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas, the company said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice earlier this week.

The layoff will be implemented in two rounds. The first of two-phased layoffs will begin on November 18. A total of 686 full-time workers will face the impact temporarily. The company will terminate 250 temporary employees.

Under the second phase, 759 full-time workers will be temporarily laid off, beginning on January 12, next year.
