Amazon plans to freeze hiring in corporate workforce
Industry giant Amazon has announced corporate hiring freeze. Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology Beth Galetti has confirmed the firm’s move in her blog.
She gave an outline of the ‘uncertain’ economy and hiring of her company in the last few years.
Galetti informed the Amazon staff that the CEO Jassy and his team have decided to “pause on new incremental hires in our corporate workforce”.
The ‘’corporate’caution might use to differentiate the factory workers,TechCrunch reported.
“We’re facing an unusual macro-economic environment, and want to balance our hiring and investments with being thoughtful about this economy. This is not the first time that we’ve faced uncertain and challenging economies in our past,” said Galetti in the blog.
“While we have had several years where we’ve expanded our headcount broadly, there have also been several years where we’ve tightened our belt and were more streamlined in how many people we added. With fewer people to hire this moment, this should give each team an opportunity to further prioritise what matters most to customers and the business, and to be more productive,” Galetti added.
Galetti also mentioned that despite the company’s move, they are planning “to hire a meaningful number of people in 2023”, and the company is excited to manage newer initiatives like Prime Video, Alexa, Grocery, Kuiper, Zoox, and Healthcare.
Since Jassy has taken over Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos’ CEO role in July 2021, the former AWS head has been finding ways to cut costs across the company, so as to manage rising inflation. Recently, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg had also taken a similar decision to pause hiring and deploy cost-cutting measures back in September.
Such a move is part of major overhaul by tech companies to save their talent and structuring issues in light of the recent drop in quarterly growth.
