Finland opens career opportunities to highly skilled Filipinos
MANILA – Finland’s employment minister is on official visit to the Philippines as part of a wider effort to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Minister Arto Satonen and his delegation are in the country until 18 January to “explore avenues for deeper cooperation” and present career opportunities for skilled Filipinos, Business Finland announced.
Minister Satonen views the three-day visit as a way to connect businesses and international experts.
“We are committed to supporting employers and experts to ensure they have favourable conditions for successful recruitment. Upholding ethical standards and smooth recruitment processes remain our top priorities,” the official said.
Finland as a top destination for highly skilled workers
With a high quality of life and a multitude of work opportunities available, Finland is fast becoming a top destination for international talent. Finnish employers are tapping into a global talent pool to address the growing demand for skilled workers, particularly in technology, industry and health care, and the Philippines is among their source countries of choice.
Helsinki Mayor Juhana Vartiainen accompanied Minister Satonen, along with a contingent of leaders in business, education, and labour.
“As a city, we welcome newcomers and offer a comprehensive range of information and public services to assist with settling into a new country,” Vartiainen said.
“The city of Helsinki is a large employer in Finland, and we actively seek talented workforce from abroad, particularly in our healthcare sector. With our ethical recruitment principles, we ensure a transparent and fair recruitment process. Helsinki provides exciting opportunities for all and fosters an excellent work-life balance.”
70 years of diplomatic relations
This year, Finland and the Philippines are also celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations.
On Thursday, Finland’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment signed a joint declaration of intent with the Philippines’ Department of Migrant Workers to ensure the safe deployment of Filipino workers.
The Philippines remains a source market for highly skilled workers in health care and tech.
Laura Lindeman, Director of the Work in Finland unit at Business Finland, is looking forward to welcoming more Filipino talents to Finland.
“Finland is an equal society with exceptional work-life balance. Our high-quality companies offer vast opportunities for professional development and education,” Lindeman said, urging Filipinos to explore work opportunities in the country.
