OpenAI has a new board; Sam Altman resumes CEO role

Sam Altman has officially reclaimed the role of CEO at OpenAI. This announcement comes alongside crucial appointments, with Mira Murati returning as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Greg Brockman assuming the role of President. The leadership reshuffle is complemented by a renewed initial board featuring Bret Taylor as Chair, alongside Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the future, Altman commended the team for their dedication during a period he described as "unclear and unprecedented." He extended gratitude to key contributors, including Ilya, Adam, Tasha, Helen, and Emmett. 

Altman also expressed optimism about future collaboration with Ilya despite his departure from the board.

Altman outlined immediate priorities for OpenAI, emphasising collaboration with CTO Mira Murati on advancing research plans. The focus includes an unwavering commitment to improving and deploying products globally, ensuring the benefits of artificial intelligence reach a wider audience. 

Altman highlighted collaboration with the board, led by Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo, to reinforce governance structures and ensure stability.

Bret Taylor, speaking on behalf of the OpenAI Board, expressed gratitude to the community for collectively finding a path forward. 

Taylor outlined the board's commitment to enhancing corporate governance. This includes building a diverse board representing expertise in technology, safety, and policy. The board will also stabilize OpenAI's organizational structure through an independent committee overseeing a comprehensive review of recent events.
