Domino’s to hire 10,000 workers in the U.S amid coronavirus pandemic

The aggressive hiring plans have been put in place by American multinational pizza restaurant chain to make sure that they’re not only feeding people, but also providing opportunity to those looking for work at this time, especially those in the heavily-impacted restaurant industry, as shared by CEO Ritch Allisondo.

While full-service restaurants seem to be hit the hardest by the pandemic with states shutting dining rooms and consumers preferring to cook food at home, Domino’s still seems to have a chance as some analysts believe that Domino’s is one of the best positioned restaurant companies for being  known for delivery.

In the U.S, it is expected to hire about 10,000 workers for full-time and part-time roles.

Domino’s would be hiring for delivery drivers, pizza makers, customer service representatives, managers and licensed truck drivers for its supply chain centers. The hiring requirements will vary based on individual stores.

More than two dozen states have ordered that restaurants close their dining rooms and shift to to-go only options. Some restaurant companies have decided to shutter their doors temporarily for the safety of their employees and customers.

As the National Restaurant Association estimates that between 5 million and 7 million restaurant jobs could be lost over the next three months in the ongoing crisis caused by the outbreak of COVID-19, the hiring plan of Domino’s presents an opportunity for the workforce in the sector. However, at this time of crisis, the talent has to be extremely flexible, learn fast and adapt as per the needs of the sector. To be able to secure the jobs or grab new opportunities they have to quickly grasp the new skills required for them. Whether its business or talent some compromises are surely on the way.

Responding to the story, Neeti Sharma, Sr. Vice President, TeamLease Services Limited shared how while many QSRs may find it difficult to retain their staff given the current Covid’19 impact, Domino's presents great opportunties for workers.  She suggests that the workforce in the sector can work on their service orientation, customer relationships, and gain knowledge about technological tools, read up and upskill themselves to become ready for the upcoming job opportunities at Domino's.
