Go-Jek makes a Singaporean entrance partnering 6 car rental firms
Indonesia-based Go-Jek, a ride-hailing, a grocery delivering app that also provides cleaning and massage services is partnering with six major car rental firms in order to prep for its entry into Singapore in November.
The partnership with car rental firms is designed to help drivers in Singapore who are interested in working with Go-Jek but are unable to do so because they do not own vehicles. The partner firms will also help in catering to the demand for private-hire drivers.
Go-Jek’s launch in Singapore will come at the heels of the Grab-Uber merger in Singapore from earlier this year. This merger had led to an investigation by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore wherein the commission issued a fine of S$13 million for Grab and Uber.
Go-Jek is however optimistic about its entry into the new market and hopes to contribute to Singapore’s competitive landscape of ride-hailing and delivery services app.
Indonesia-based Go-Jek is not stopping at Singapore and has its sights set on creating an international firm with a $500 million investment to expand to the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.
Apart from increasing its number of drivers and vehicle fleet, Go-Jek is also hiring more than 200 engineers in Bengaluru to build a robust backend technological infrastructure and sophisticated consumer experience for its growing number of users.
The delivery-services giant is catering to about 70 million users in Indonesia and is hiring for different jobs such as Data Scientists, Full-stack engineers, Backend developers, Product Managers and UI/UX designers as well. With a wide array of services that range from food delivery, ride-hailing, logistics and e-payments, Go-Jek is on a strategic hiring and expansion path.
Reportedly, Go-Jek was also looking to raise a minimum of $2 billion to supplement its expansion in the Southeast Asian region.
The new vehicle fleet will help in creating jobs--not only for more drivers but also for those who are skilled in building strong tech products designed for the end consumer.
