Ministry of Manpower Singapore notifies 1200 employers to fix their payslip practices
The Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has notified around 1200 employers to fix their pay slip practices. The Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad revealed that the MoM had received over 500 complaints in the past two years against employers who have not issued itemized pay slips. Itemized payslips have been mandatory since April 2016.
When asked about the measures being taken to educate and help employers, especially those in small-to-medium enterprises, in complying with the legislation to issue itemized pay slips, Zaqy Mohamad shared in media that when the requirement was introduced, MOM worked with tripartite partners and industry associations such as the NTUC U Care Centre, U SME, Federation of Merchants’ Associations Singapore, and the Association of Small & Medium Enterprises to increase awareness and offer solutions.
Guidebooks on complying with the requirements and templates for payslips have been distributed to about 180,000 employers so far. Small and Medium Enterprises can also leverage on HR Shared Services providers, those appointed under Enterprise Singapore’s HR Shared Services scheme, to be in full compliance with the law.
“MOM will continue to monitor the situation, and work with tripartite partners to raise awareness and strengthen enforcement as needed,” the minister was quoted in the media.
