Bitsmedia, the developer behind ultra-popular Islamic lifestyle app Muslim Pro, has announced the promotion of Fara Abdullah and Nik Emir Din to co-CEOs with effect this year. They take over from Louis-Bernard Carcouet, who is stepping back to a senior advisory role.

The new co-CEOs have highly complementary skillsets. Fara joined Bitsmedia in March 2021 as Managing Director, coming from a regional business development role at Danone. Her expertise is in marketing and business development, and in her previous positions she has worked on the development of global brands in strategic accounts and markets across the APAC region. As co-CEO, she will lead the commercial, marketing, communications and product development arm.

Nik, meanwhile, has been with Bitsmedia since 2018, as Chief Financial Officer and Country Manager for Malaysia. His background is in finance and investment, and he previously held positions at RHB Banking Group, sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional, and Deloitte. As co-CEO, he will lead the finance, legal, human resources, and technology departments.

The appointment of the two new co-CEOs comes just a couple of weeks in advance of the month of Ramadan, and also underscores the ambition of Bitsmedia to expand the Muslim Pro app beyond its initial objective of supporting digital religious needs, and into the Muslim lifestyle space.

Speaking on the leadership transition, Carcouet said: “I am excited for Nik and Fara to lead Bitsmedia and Muslim Pro into its next phase of growth. There are currently 2 billion Muslims around the world belonging to diverse communities—each with their own customs, language, traditions and ways of life—and they’re seeking tools and content to connect more deeply with their spirituality. We believe there’s plenty of room to grow and meet evolving needs of Muslims everywhere, and Fara and Nik are just the right people to achieve it."
