Grab to set up a new headquarter in Singapore & increase hiring

Singapore based ride-hailing company, Grab has announced that it will build a new headquarter in Singapore in one-north. Ascendas Reit will develop and manage the building and the expected cost about of setting up a new headquarter is about S$181.2 Mn.

Currently, Grab has four offices in Singapore at Midview City, Marina One, Cecil Street and Guoco Tower. The new office will be ready by the fourth quarter of 2020 and house all of Grab's employees' in the country.

"The new headquarters is yet another important milestone for us - it represents our long term commitment to Singapore and the region,” said Grab's Head of People, Ong Chin Yin.

The new office will be designed with green features, incorporating mid-level sky terraces and communal spaces.

Ong Chin You also shared recruitment plans of the company and said Grab plans to create and hire for "a thousand more exciting roles" globally over the next 12 months. 

Not only in Singapore but Grab is looking to increase hiring and double its headcount in Malaysia as well. 

Grab Malaysia Country Head Sean Goh was recently reported saying that the new office in Bandar Utama, called the Regional Centre of Excellence, can accommodate 400 more new staff – it currently has about 600 employees. 

He also shared that the company is looking to expand its data scientist, legal, marketing, finance and customer service departments.

Grab launched in 2012 as a ride-hailing app in 2012 has grown over the years and expanded its business to offer food and package deliveries, mobile payments and financial services. Recently, the company hit its three billionth ride in Southeast Asia. 

With operations in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Cambodia, the company continues to expand its operations and also contributes to the economic and human development in the region. From helping drivers to get training to nurturing local tech talents and facilitating knowledge transfer through the R&D centre, Grab is in a way helping the talent in SEA region grow.
