Three months after cutting around 1000 jobs, representing nearly a third of its British workforce in July this year, consumer goods giant Dyson in a surprise move laid off an undisclosed number of employees. Those impacted are reportedly from the manufacturing and procurement departments at its global headquarters in Singapore.

The latest and unexpected round of layoffs at Dyson left staff in shock and has contributed to low morale. The layoffs in Singapore were not initially expected, especially after previous assurances that Singapore would not be impacted by earlier cuts.

According to CNA, an email was sent to affected employees asking them to attend individual meetings, during which HR representatives informed them that their roles had been eliminated due to redundancy.

“Yesterday, we let good people go at Dyson. Engineers, procurement, operations, specialists, analysts, managers among others. Some of you I have personally worked with, my coffee buddies, “neighbours”, tea break kakis, Others whom I have shared more than a laugh with, who taught me the ins of your fascinating craft, who were passionate in the work you did. Many I will miss working with, in so many ways,” reads a LinkedIn post of Jevon (Jiehan)Yang who works as finance manager of Storage at Dyson in Singapore.

Employees believed to be laid off by Dyson in its latest round of job cuts turned to LinkedIn to find a new job. A former Dyson employee Siu Kwok Ng took to LinkedIn to express his emotions while seeking a new job. "It's not the best timing since re-joining Dyson for only 5 months but, life goes on. If you hear of any opportunities, please do reach out. Thank you!” his LinkedIn post reads.

Luke Jau, Utkarsh Srivastava, Hui Wu, and Yee Ven Teo are other former employees of Dyson who have sought help in seeking a new job role in Singapore.

The layoffs at Dyson were not the only layoffs in recent months. General Motors, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Barclays, and UBS Asia also announced lay off of employees this year.

Amid the downsizing, HR leaders like Wan Xin, Head of Talent Acquisition, Singapore and Malaysia at Cushman & Wakefield and Min-Liang Tan, founder and CEO of Razer Inc stepped up to support laid-off employees with the latest hiring and career resources.
