Malaysia’s talent strategy agency will now report to Ministry of Human Resources
The Minister of Human Resources M Kulasegaran announced that Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp) will now report to his ministry, transferring from Jabatan Perdana Menteri or JPM (Prime Minister’s Department).
Talent Corporation Malaysia is the national agency that drives Malaysia’s talent strategy towards becoming a market-driven talent hub. The move is in line with Government’s efforts to restructure the departments and agencies under the JPM after the 14th General Election.
The announcement came in when Kulasegaran visited TalentCorp’s offices in Petaling Jaya, to observe the daily operations of the agency and its subsidiary, MYXpats Centre. The move will allow TalentCorp to focus on initiatives to build Malaysia’s professional and graduate talent space, according to the Kulasegaran.
Malaysia wants to ensure that they meet the demand for the increased supply of skilled, future-ready talent that will be ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Only 28% of Malaysia’s workforce is high-skilled, shows Malaysia’s 2017 Department of Statistics data, which means that they need to focus on creating a pool of highly skilled professionals and graduates in Malaysia.
TalentCorp Malaysian will continue to attract talent, facilitate global talent and build networks of top talent, to ensure the Malaysian labor force is well primed to tackle the challenges of IR 4.0 and the future of work. Among the focus of the agency will be to work with employers to implement work-life practices and to recruit women on career breaks through its Career Comeback Programme.
