Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., is building a new campus in Hudson Square by investing over $1 billion in capital.

Ruth Porat, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Alphabet and Google shared in media, "Today we’re taking the next step in our commitment to our New York City presence by investing over $1 billion in capital improvements to establish a new campus, Google Hudson Square."

Porat shares the current New York office employs over 7,000 employees working on different teams including Search, Ads, Maps, YouTube, Cloud, Technical Infrastructure, Sales, Partnerships and Research. The new campus, Google Hudson Square will be the primary location for Google's New York-based business operation.

Porat also shared that the investment in this new campus is also a part of supporting the local talent. He shared, " Our investment in New York is a huge part of our commitment to grow and invest in U.S. facilities, offices and jobs. As we continue to grow across the country, we look forward to calling New York City home for many years to come." He was further quoted in media saying, "Porat wrote. "We will have the capacity to more than double the number of Googlers in New York over the next ten years." 

The announcement follows plans from other tech giants to grow their New York footprint. The most talked about move, due to its subsequent controversy, is Amazon.com Inc.'s opening of a new headquarters in Long Island City, Queens. Last week, Apple Inc. also confirmed that it was going to add to its existing New York workforce by "hundreds" of workers.
