Gurgaon, one of India’s premier startup hubs, will soon be home to the biggest co-working space in the world, according to a Times of India report. 

The co-working space (called Go Work) will have over 12,000 seats, thereby eclipsing the 3,000 seat-capacity of the WeWork space in London, which was the most accommodative space before this. To put things in further perspective, India’s next largest co-work space is the WeWork space in Mumbai, with a 2,25,000 sqft area; while Go Work is sprawled over 8 lakh square feet.  

Built by commercial real-estate developer Nimitya Group, Go Work is designed to be a unique collaborative campus, providing scope for young, fledgling startups to commence their operations in an economically viable manner.

Elaborating on the rationale for coming up with such a space, Sudeep Singh, Chief Evangelist at Go Work said: "In India we need not just a co-working space, but a co-collaborating work space that resonates with not just the new Gen but also the Next Gen. India requires scale in terms of seating to create the right eco-system for a startup given our large startup entrepreneurs and their diverse business".

Echoing Sudeep’s point of view on the need for scale, Sanjeev Mahajan, CMD, Nimitya Group was quoted as saying: "We created this facility because our market research suggested that this sector is growing and requires scale and to create an entire eco-system based on collaboration, we needed a larger seating space and an equally big area for amenities like breakout zones, conference rooms, gyms, meditation centre.”

With NASSCOM predicting that India will have more than 11,500 tech-startups by 2020, co-working spaces are an extremely promising segment in the commercial real estate sector. Apart from major international players like WeWork, Indian startups like Skootr and Awfis are also investing heavily, and spreading their wings all over the country.
