Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun departs in leadership shakeup

Boeing announced today that Dave Calhoun is stepping down as president and CEO, effective immediately. Stan Deal is also retiring from the company.

Stephanie Pope has been appointed to succeed Calhoun as president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Pope has more than 30 years of experience in the aerospace industry, most recently serving as senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

"I am confident that Stephanie is the right leader to take Boeing Commercial Airplanes forward," said Calhoun. "She has a deep understanding of the business and a proven track record of success."

Pope said she is honored to be appointed president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "I am committed to working with the talented Boeing team to deliver on our commitments to our customers and stakeholders," she said.

The company also announced that Brian West has been appointed chief financial officer (CFO), effective immediately. West has been serving as Boeing's vice president of Investor Relations since 2018.

"Brian is a highly respected financial leader with a deep understanding of Boeing's business," said Calhoun. "I am confident that he will be a valuable asset to the company in his new role."

Larry Kellner, the current chairman, is stepping down and won't be running for re-election at the next shareholder meeting. To fill his shoes, the board picked Steve Mollenkopf as the new independent chairman. Mollenkopf's big job will be leading the search to find Boeing's next CEO, hinting at a potential leadership change for the company in the near future.

West said he is grateful for the opportunity to serve as Boeing's CFO. "I am committed to working with the Boeing team to deliver strong financial performance for the company," he said.

These leadership changes come as Boeing continues to work through a number of challenges, including the ongoing 737 MAX grounding.

Boeing is confident that the new leadership team will help the company to overcome its challenges and continue to be a leader in the aerospace industry.
