Hod Lipson to speak on the six waves of Artificial Intelligence at TechHR 2019
There is no better learning than learning from the best. Experts who are developing or harnessing technologies that can enable disproportionate leaps in work efficiency or redefining the future of work and raising the bar for productivity, innovation, and growth. And one such technology is AI, which has experts divided on the effects it will have on jobs and the world of work.
As per a recent report from Paris-based group OECD, robots and globalization are rapidly changing the workplace and governments must act fast and decisively to counter the effects or face a worsening of social and economic tensions. As per the report, almost half of all jobs could be wiped out or radically altered in the next two decades due to automation.
However, the same report also mentions that workers will benefit as technology opens new markets and increases productivity; it is young, low-skilled, part-time and gig-economy workers are vulnerable.
So where and what exactly will be the implications of this technology? How can organizations develop an AI strategy to leverage the far-reaching effects of this technology?
It is these very questions, Hod Lipson, an award-winning researcher, teacher, and communicator, and roboticist who works in the areas of artificial intelligence and digital manufacturing-particularly on self-aware robots will answer in his keynote at People Matters TechHR 2019 on 2nd August at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram.
Hod is a professor of Engineering and Data Science at Columbia University in New York, and also a co-author of the award-winning book “Fabricated: The New World of 3D printing”, and “Driverless: Intelligent cars and the road ahead”. His work on self-aware and self-replicating robots challenges conventional views of robotics. Lipson directs the Creative Machines Lab, which pioneers new ways to make machines that create, and machines that are creative.
In his keynote, Hod will dwell on how Artificial Intelligence and Robotics technologies have been making grand strides over the past few years, outperforming humans in tasks once thought to be impossible to automate. Machines can now recognize images, interpret audio and understand language with unprecedented reliability. Cars can drive themselves. But where will this technology go next, and how far can it reach?
Hod’s session will explain what is Artificial Intelligence in simple terms, how it works, what it can and cannot do.
“We will discuss how to develop an AI strategy in your organization and how to identify new opportunities. Finally we will look at what is driving the technology and try to predict its future.”
