As the largest stakeholder in Twitter after buying a 9.2% stake, Elon Musk will join the board of directors, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“I’m excited to share that we’re appointing @elonmusk to our board! Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board,” CEO Parag Agrawal said in a tweet.

“He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on Twitter, and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term,” Parag added.

“Looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months,” Musk replied to the tweet.

On Monday, the billionaire revealed that he has a 9.2% stake in the social media giant.

Musk will be a Class II director, and his term will end at Twitter's annual meeting of stockholders in 2024.
