Instagram names former designer at Facebook as Head
It was only a few days ago that Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, the co-founders of the photo-sharing app Instagram resigned and shared their plan to leave the company in the coming weeks. Now, a week after their resignation, Facebook has named Adam Mosseri, a 10-year veteran at the company, as the Head of Instagram.
“We are thrilled to hand over the reins to a product leader with a strong design background and a focus on craft and simplicity — as well as a deep understanding of the importance of community,” Systrom and Krieger wrote in a post on the Instagram blog.
Although the role of Adam would be similar to that of the CEO, however, he won't get the title as Facebook says it reserves CEO titles to company founders.
Before being named as the Head of Instagram, Adam was recently appointed as Instagram’s head of product in May. He had begun his career in Facebook as a designer and most recently had led its news feed. Now, In the new role, he will oversee all functions of the business and will recruit a new executive team, including a Head of Engineering, Head of Product and Head of Operations.
While the co-founders will exit the company they started, Adam expressed his desire to keep Instagram’s unique culture set by them intact. “Simplicity, craft and community as well as kindness, is what defines the company's culture.
The photo-sharing app mostly famous among the teens has grown recently in terms of its usage, with many businesses utilizing the space for product promotion and even selling their products. Companies are also starting to leverage the social networking app for hiring. As per a recent report, firms such as Floating Canvas Company, Epsilon, and Instamojo are hiring through Instagram and companies like Schneider Electric, Starbucks and Verizon are using Instagram to post job ads.
With new challenges and opportunities ahead, Adam has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders.
