Pine Labs strengthens senior leadership by making key appointments

Pine Labs strengthens senior leadership by making key appointments

Leading merchant commerce platform, Pine Labs has announced the addition of two new leaders in their global senior leadership team. As per the appointment, the company has hired PayPal’s Varun Varma as the Head of Strategy and Corporate Development and Thomson Reuter’s Jagriti Bhattacharya as General Counsel. 

Commenting on the appointments, Amrish Rau, CEO, Pine Labs, said, “Today, Pine Labs is in one of its most exciting phases where we are building a complete omnichannel ecosystem for our customers, entering new markets, and forging strategic partnerships to engineer growth outside India. In this purposeful journey, I am delighted to welcome Varun to Pine Labs. His wealth of international experience in payments and fintech will be invaluable to us going forward. Equally thrilled to have Jagriti accept the role of General Counsel at Pine Labs. Some of the key verticals at Pine Labs such as Human Resources, Legal, and Online Payments are headed by women leaders and that says something about our continued commitment to build an Equal Opportunity organisation for all.”

The latest move is another feather in the cap of the company who has seen a lot of movements in terms of acquiring new platforms and hiring senior leaders.

Varma will be heading strategy and corporate development for Pine Labs. Prior to joining Pine Labs, Varun was leading corporate strategy for PayPal across its international markets, with a focus on fast growing markets in APAC and LatAm. He also counts CitiBank as his ex-employers.

Varun Varma, Pine Labs said,“This is an exciting time to join Pine Labs. We are seeing tailwinds from secular, generational shifts in digitization and the growth of digital payment ecosystems.”

He also added that Pine Labs is in a strong position to accelerate its momentum.

Prior to Bhattacharya where she was the Chief Counsel, South Asia. She has also worked with Citibank where she advised on key transactions and supported the launch of innovative financial products in South Asia, provided her insights to the Treasury legal function, and earned experience in international arbitrations.

Jagriti Bhattacharya, General Counsel, Pine Labs, said, “Pine Labs is one of the organisations that are walking the talk on making a tangible difference to the ecosystem they are serving. I have long admired the way Pine Labs has grown from strength to strength.
