UOB Malaysia appoints its first female CEO

UOB Malaysia named its deputy chief executive officer Ng Wei Wei as the company's first female CEO, effective May 1, 2022.

Ng previously worked at UOB Malaysia between 2000 and 2006 in the earlier part of her career before taking on the role of deputy CEO in 2021.

Before returning to UOB Malaysia in 2019 as managing director and country head of wholesale banking, she worked in various leadership capacities at other financial institutions in Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Wong Kim Choong, the bank's current chief executive, will step down after leading the company since 2012. Until his planned retirement, he will serve as a senior adviser to supervise the acquisition of Citi's consumer banking assets.

Ng has played a key role in expanding UOB Malaysia's Wholesale Banking franchise, as well as advancing the bank's strategic priorities, including the Environment, Social and Governance, and Innovation agendas, as well as assisting in expanding regionally by leveraging the bank's connectivity, expertise, and capabilities.
