Ex UBER APAC Head joins Sequoia Capital as Managing Director

Amit Jain, the former APAC Head of Uber has joined marquee venture capital firm Sequoia Capital as a Managing Director.

He will join the firm’s Growth team, advising on new opportunities and helping existing growth stage companies in India and SEA. Jain will be based out of the Singapore office.

Announcing this development in a LinkedIn post, G V Ravishankar, MD, Sequoia Capital said, “His addition to the team underscores our deep commitment to helping founders realize their dreams of building very large and enduring companies, many of whom will become key pillars of this region’s growth, prosperity and innovation.”

The note further said, at Sequoia, our goal is to be the most valuable partner for founders by helping them make strategic choices, build teams, launch new products, develop technical capabilities and help with go-to-market. Amit’s 20 years of operating experience and terrific track record of building and managing hyper growth tech businesses globally, is going to give founders of fast-growing startups in our portfolio a huge advantage.

Amit is a very accomplished business leader who we have immense respect and admiration for. Until recently, Amit was Uber’s Head of Asia Pacific, one of the fastest-growing regions for the company. Prior to that, Amit led Uber's business in India and South Asia - from its very early days in the market to exponential growth over three years. Prior to Uber, he was President at Rent.com, a housing classified site based in Los Angeles and also worked at TPG Capital and McKinsey & Company.

Over the last decade, we have continued to build a world-class team of investment advisors and company builders across India and Singapore. Amit’s addition is yet another win for founders in India & SEA and we are thrilled to have him join the Sequoia India family.
