Singtel chairman Simon Israel has stepped down and also departed the board of directors, according to a stock exchange announcement made late on July 30, after the conclusion of the company's annual general meeting. His departure had been planned for some time and was first announced in December 2019, along with the appointment of his successor: Lee Theng Kiat, who officially took up the position of chairman-designate in January 2020.

Israel had spent nine years at the helm of the telco, having been appointed in 2011. He has also previously served on the boards of real estate developer CapitaLand and dairy group Fonterra Co-operative. With his departure from Singtel, he still holds positions on the boards of Singpost and Stewardship Asia Centre

Lee, the new chairman, is also the chairman and former CEO of Temasek International. At the time of his appointment, Singtel stated that Lee was the "best fit, given his industry, business, and governance experience."
