Almost three years after Martin Murphy left the role in 2016, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is set to appoint a new managing director for Ireland as the company grows its business.

In 2015, tech conglomerate HP had split into two units. While HP Inc took on the company’s printer and PC division, HPE focused on enterprise computing such as servers, storage, hybrid infrastructure, edge computing, and software and networking equipment.

A year after the split, Murphy had stepped down from his role and HPE's Ireland business had been missing a dedicated leader since then. Now as HPE experiences growth in the country, and the opportunity it foresees, the firm has decided to appoint a leader for its Ireland business.

Until now Marc Waters, HPE’s Managing Director for the UK, Ireland, the Middle East and Africa, has had overall responsibility for the business on the island of Ireland. Now as the new MD for Ireland gets appointed by 1st November, he/she will report to Waters.

"Given the growth opportunity we see in Ireland and the progress that the businesses have made this year, we are going to make the investment and have that single leaser based in Ireland to tell our story," said Waters.

The hunt for the MD has already started and internal candidates are also being looked at. Someone from the 700 people in HPE Ireland, might be the next MD for its Ireland business.

HPE also needs a dedicated leader at this time as it prepares for Brexit.

Waters shared that the business was preparing for the upcoming exit of the UK from the European Union and has been doing so for about 18 months.

HPE seeks to be more ready to face the impact UK's exit might have on its business. "More uncertainty and extensions were not necessarily welcome," Waters added.

The company has invested quite a lot in being as prepared as possible for any impact on its internal systems and processes, such as supply chains, invoicing requirements and compliance. But the investment in terms of time, money and effort continues for HPE as it navigates through the impact of social and economic changes on its business.
