Twitter’s global Vice President for public policy Sinead McSweeney quits
Twitter Inc's public policy chief Sinead McSweeney has quit the company amid the ongoing layoff at the micro-blogging site.
McSweeney has been serving in this position since November 2021.
According to her Linkedin profile, she joined Twitter in July 2012 as Senior Director, Public Policy EMEA. Nick Pickles, currently serving as Senior Director for Global Public Policy Strategy, has reportedly taken over McSweeney's role.
The layoffs have become a regular phenomenon since Tesla boss Elon Musk closed the $ 44 billion deal. Musk cut the staff from 7,500 to under 2,000.
The public policy team handles requests from governments and civil rights groups to remove problematic content and sets rules to protect vulnerable users.
The team is also responsible for interacting with lawmakers and civil society on issues including free speech, privacy and online safety.
In another development, Elon Musk may be on his way out if he keeps his promise to bow down once users want to boot him out through an online poll.
Amid fears of bankruptcy looming large on Twitter, Musk on Sunday tweeted, "Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll."
Recently, Twitter suspended the accounts of several journalists, prompting criticism from some lawmakers and officials before Musk said Saturday that Twitter would begin reinstating the accounts.
