Accenture to lay off hundreds of Austin employees at Facebook-leased facility
In Austin, professional services company Accenture PLC is initiating layoffs that will affect hundreds of employees working at a facility in The Domain. The facility is leased by the social media giant Facebook, which has also undergone significant job cuts in Austin over the past few months.
Last month, Accenture, the prominent Ireland-based company known for its collaborations with large tech firms, notified the Texas Workforce Commission through a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter that it intends to lay off a maximum of 549 employees in the upcoming months.
The contents of the letter, which was made public on May 17, revealed that the impact of the decision would be felt by employees stationed at 11800 Alterra Parkway, commonly referred to as Domain 12. In 2018, Facebook reportedly secured a lease for the entire 17-story building.
On the other hand, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, intends to commence a new round of employee layoffs next week.
During the meeting, the precise timing of the layoffs, previously hinted at by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to occur in May, was officially confirmed. Vox reported that these layoffs would primarily focus on Meta's business departments and potentially affect a substantial number of employees.
Additionally, Google discontinued certain business relationships with contracting firms including Cognizant and Accenture, which employed workers involved in supporting various YouTube services.
The move came as Google, which had acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006, underwent changes in its contracting arrangements.
