Layoffs hit Salesforce: Thousands of employees get to know they've been sacked
Other than Apple, there is hardly any tech giant that has not kicked out employees amid the ongoing layoff season. The latest one to join the list and terminate thousands of employees is Salesforce.
The workers of the tech giant came to know last week that they have been fired, as the company began laying off 7,000 workers or 10 per cent of its workforce.
Salesforce hinted that it will soon begin mass layoffs at the beginning of the last month. If media reports are to be believed, 4,000 people disappeared from Salesforce's Slack channel last week.
In San Francisco, the layoff round affected around 258 workers, hitting "sales and customer service", "technology and product" and "general administration", according to a WARN notice.
"Layoff posts flooded LinkedIn from across the country and around San Francisco on Thursday, as workers bid adieu to their Salesforce 'ohana' and placed "#opentowork" filters on their profiles, reported Business Standard, citing SFGate.
Not just in San Francisco, 200 employees in Ireland received their notices too. Earlier, in a letter to employees, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said that the environment remains "challenging" and that consumers are taking a more measured approach to making their purchases.
"With this in mind, we've made the very difficult decision to reduce our workforce by about 10 per cent, mostly over the coming weeks," Benioff said.
"Those outside the US will receive a similar level of support, and our local processes will align with employment laws in each country," added Benioff.
