Deliveroo partners with Central Singapore CDC to upskill riders
Deliveroo Singapore today announced a partnership with Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC) to support Deliveroo riders in their journey for lifelong learning. As part of the collaboration, Central Singapore CDC will conduct a SkillsFuture Advice workshop on 18 January, tailored to areas of interest shared by Deliveroo riders. To help riders upskill, Deliveroo has also introduced a funding scheme of $9,000 to subsidize SkillsFuture course fees.
A survey conducted among Deliveroo’s rider fleet last year found that riders are most interested to attend courses in the areas of e-commerce, language, business management, programming, and coding. Through the SkillsFuture Advice workshop, Central Singapore CDC will guide Deliveroo riders as they advance their SkillsFuture journey, covering key trends in the workplace, suitable courses to match their desired skill sets, and SkillsFuture resources available.
From now until 30 June 2021, riders can avail of Deliveroo’s funding scheme to offset up to $300 of their SkillsFuture course fees, provided that they have used up their opening SkillsFuture credits and that they have a standing account with Deliveroo. Riders will need to inform Deliveroo of their intention to take up the scheme and submit a certificate of completion once they have finished the course. Deliveroo will also evaluate an extension of the initiative based on riders’ feedback in the first half of the year.
“Deliveroo is committed to supporting our riders reach their full potential, by giving them flexibility over their work and the space to grow professionally, acquiring and mastering important skills of their interests. We know that many riders work with us as a way to supplement their income or support a long term goal outside of Deliveroo. The funding scheme is aimed at giving our riders access to new opportunities, to deliver on their dreams and pursue their passions,” said Sarah Tan, General Manager, Deliveroo Singapore.
Deliveroo Singapore’s partnership with Central Singapore CDC is the latest in a series of initiatives to provide upskilling and training for its riders. In May 2019, Deliveroo launched its OpenClassrooms program to offer more than 300 free online learning courses for riders, including help to start-up businesses, soft skills training, and web design courses. In April 2020, the company expanded its OpenClassrooms program to provide riders and their families with access to over 700 online courses as they stay home during Circuit Breaker.
