Grab appoints Yee Wee Tang as Country Head for Singapore

Grab has announced the appointment of Yee Wee Tang as Country Head of Grab Singapore, effective 1 April 2019. In his role, Wee Tang will oversee the business strategy and operations of Grab’s businesses in Singapore. A four-year veteran at Grab, he was previously the Country Head in the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia. He succeeds Lim Kell Jay, who assumes the position of Co-Chief of Staff in the CEO Office, with a dual role as Head of GrabFood Singapore.

Kell Jay will help to accelerate the growth of GrabFood further to become the top food delivery service player in Singapore by 1H 2019. GrabFood’s orders in Singapore has been growing at an average of around 25% per month, says the company.

Wee Tang’s proven credentials in launching, running and expanding Grab across Southeast Asia while simultaneously giving back to the local communities fits perfectly for this next phase of growth for Grab in Singapore,” said Russell Cohen, Head of Regional Operations, Grab. 

“I am excited to be back in Singapore. The team has accomplished a lot in the last six years; we are the only super app that addresses multiple daily needs of Singaporeans,” said Yee Wee Tang, the new Country Head of Grab Singapore. 

Wee Tang brings to Grab Singapore a track record of strong partnerships that contribute to positive and long term impact on local communities, and a keen understanding of local conditions that lead to hyperlocal Grab services that truly address users’ needs. 

Under his leadership in Cambodia and the Philippines, the teams worked with the United Nations Development Programme and World Bank respectively to use Grab’s insights into traffic statistics to help uplift local living standards by improving traffic conditions. 

In Thailand, he worked with Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai Provincial Government Offices and the Provincial Land Transport Office to digitize transport and enhance urban development. Grab RedTruck – an on-demand, hyperlocal transport service was also launched in Thailand to enhance local livelihoods leveraging ride-hailing technology, under his charge. 

Prior to joining Grab, Wee Tang was a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and BP.
