Google CEO, Sundar Pichai joins Alphabet Board of Directors

Sundar Pichai appointed as one of the board members of Alphabet which also includes Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and Chairman Eric Schmidt
Google CEO, Sundar Pichai joins Alphabet Board of Directors

Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google has appointed Sundar Pichai as one of the board members. Pichai has become the fifth insider to join the board among the 13 members. The other Google members on the Alphabet board are founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Chairman Eric Schmidt and Diane Greene, who heads Google's cloud computing unit and reports to Pichai.

According to media reports, Alphabet shares have risen by 50% under Pichai’s leadership. He transported his attention to AI and machine learning which has led to a long list of improvements for Google's consumer and enterprise services. 

Alphabet CEO, Larry Page was quoted in media saying, “Sundar has been doing a great job as Google’s CEO, driving strong growth, partnerships, and tremendous product innovation.”

Pichai joined Google in 2004 and led Google Chrome business. In 2013, he was placed in charge of the Android mobile operating system. In 2015, he was appointed as the Google’s CEO after Larry Page announced Alphabet restructuring.

Alphabet is a parent company of Google and conglomerate of several Google subsidiaries that encompasses several industries, including technology, life sciences, investment capital, and research. Some of its subsidiaries include Google, Calico, GV, CapitalG, Verily, Waymo, X, Nest Labs and Google Fiber.
